Well there is only one new face, and only one repositioning, on Launceston City Council. That's sad! But as we keep saying watch this space for developments. In the meantime leave a comment in the section below.

You are actually invited to do a lot more than stand back and watch – we are building a network of networks.

What in fact you are invited to do is 'link up' or better still link YOUR networks to the network. OK so you need an introduction to 7250.net:

7250.net is a very loose network of people who have an attachment to Launceston – we've actually been around for over 10 years quietly connecting in the background. For every one of us Launceston is or was our home. Many of us live away. Well, we are planning for the day when Launceston will be home again – or when one of us wins the Nobel Prize or something.

For all of us Launceston is the thing, the place, that connects us. We do not proselytise. Why would we? We do not need to. A Launcestonian can pick another one a mile away – us Launcestonians know who we are.

Some people think of 7250.net as a social or cultural network others are simply interested in having an email address like TheirNickName@7250.net

So 7250.net has no constitution, no rules, no programme, no resources except for a website and no paid staff. Well in a kind of a way we do have a programme – it is all about networking and being connected.

From time to time a little team of 7250.net people will decided that something should be done, or might be fun, or whatever and they'll go and do it. They do not need anyone's permission and all they need is each other's coperation – someone "in authority" has said that this sort of thing should not be legal but there you go.

Recently such a group gave Launceston City Council aldermen and aldermanic candidates a theirname@7250.net address and all their mail to that address was forwarded to their regular address. Lots of people want a simple, easy to remember, sometimes very private, email address – 7250.net is there to help out Launcestonians.

7250.net is our only resource, we only offer one service and our only income is our networkers’ donations. It is up to you make of that what you will.

All we ask is of anyone with the credentials who wants a 7250.net address is:

• A ranked list of 5 short easy to remember names, nicknames or numbers that you would like us to select one address from in order of your ranking;
• The email address you wish your emails forwarded to so as we can redirect your 7250.net mail to that address – for example, your tricky Gmail or service provider’s address, you know;
• a “Folding Donation” sent by SNAILmail to: 7250.net, PO Box 1807 Launceston Tasmania 7250.
  

Do that and usually within the week you will have your name@7250.net address. There is a quicker way but that involves knowing an existing networker who will sponsor you – you probably do.

The Folding Donation simply helps pay for the hosting and upload charges, etc. that must be met to keep the 7250.net Domain Name up and running. It is all quite simple really!

AND 7250.net promises NEVER to give your email address to anyone or EVER to send you an unsolicited eMail. The only way anyone can discover your 7250.net address is IF you tell them!

In the 21st Century networking is easier than it ever has been. Almost every Launcestonian has a mobile phone or knows someone who has. Almost all Launcestonians wherever they are, have an Internet connection or have someone in their family or network who does. Almost all Launcestonians, wherever they are, are a part of some kind of network or a member of an organisation or club. All 7250.net does is reinforce and facilitate Launcestonians' networks quietly in the background.
